A lumber mill with log chute, floating logs on the river, and several boats are visible. The daguerreotypist L. H. Wakefield had a studio in Oregon City in 1853, possibly as early as 1851, so I assume this image was captured by him. In either case, 1851 or 1853, this is possibly the earliest known photograph of the falls; I was not able to find an earlier
